The collection, 1792-1833, 1881, and undated includes photostatic copies and typed English translations of Richard's correspondence, biographical, and other materials. The collection was probably copied from various archives including the Clements Library and the Library of Congress. Among the correpsondents are other Catholic prelates, the Michigan Legislature, presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, Michigan notables Francis Navarre, William Woodbridge, Alexander Fraser, and St. Anne's Parish. Other papers include Richards's last wills and testaments dated Oct. 1, 1806 and Oct. 31, 1821, his estate inventory, 1833, a report about a fire in Detroit, 1809, petitions to the Michigan Legislature, including one promoting the education of Indians, 1809, papers about the Society of Catholic Schools in Michigan, 1815, and testimonies of court cases involving Richard, 1823. Most of the letters and papers were originally written by Richard in French.

The original building of St. Ann(e)'s was the first church built in Detroit. The church of French Catholics, its foundation were laid in 1702 on the feast day of St. Ann. The first church was destroyed, rebuilt in 1723, and burned in the Detroit fire of 1805. Another new church was built between 1817 and 1819.
